Fixing Alt-If Web Browsers Were celebrities

An infographic humorous was recently published and twittered about whether Web Browsers Were celebrities (full image). I noticed more than several in recent months, and a big problem on them continues to torment me: there is no alternative text enough! (Also a good argument to the attribute longdesc!)

So I decided to my typing skills to operate and provide the alternative text. Hopefully there will be more of entering this blog. So here it is, the ALT text from the Infographic if Web Browsers Were celebrities:

Firefox-can do no wrong, although not as spry, because once seemed. Would be: Morgan Freeman.

Chrome-the new hotness. People love it so much that will go wrong are nervous and embarassing them later. Would be: Christopher Nolan.

IE6-everyone thought he died long ago, but still seems to emerge all over the place. Would be: Betty White. [LOL]!

IE7-after years of give you chance after chance, performance never gets better. Would be: Matthew McConaughey.

IE8-desperately trying to stay relevant, even though it is still the same thing. Would be: The Shatner. [William Shatner]

Safari-W2190 performance seems to be everywhere. Would be: Samuel Jackson. (Just wait until he collaborates with the "chrome")

Flock-hip, but people don't take it seriously anymore. Would be: Michael Cera.

Netscape-when he died, everyone said "Oh yeah, that!" and then forgot all about it. Would be: Walter Matthau.

Opera-only ever used if you already have 100 tabs open in IE, Firefox is not available and you don't have toher choice. Everyone agrees that looks good, though. Would be: J-lo. [Jennifer Lopez]

IceWeasel-who? You mean that a stranger? Would be Kristen Schaal (AKA Mel on Flight of the Conchords)

Requires no browser-is arguably Keanu Reeves. [Avatar Keanu says "Wo"]

Response to Twitter's keyboard shortcuts

Tuesday, November 23, 2010A a few nights ago, I sent a comment to a recent article on Lifehacker, navigate the new Twitter Like a Pro with shortcut keys. My comment was not approved. I also tweeted a reply on the article for @ Scobleizer @ rsarver and Twitter employee. Not received any response there too.

The article I was responding glamorizes keyboard shortcuts new Twitter. I take offense to this called "feature", because the own site twitter.com is not accessible to users of input devices, keyboard only (which includes many types of assistive technology). And as all sites, twitter.com should be accessible to anyone, not just for those who are able to use a mouse (device independence, see WCAG 2.0.1.2 guideline). Did everyone see the irony here?!

Why my argument boils down to is this: if a website offers special keyboard shortcuts, you must first ensure that what is fully keyboard accessible.

Here's my comment and Tweet below. I exaggerate?

Article unapproved comment:

Sickens me. Twitter is not keyboard accessible, period. Users of assistive technology cannot access the site. People who use a screenshot (visually impaired) or other type of input device keyboard only (motor) are almost completely blocked and makes twitter.com useless. The new Twitter is even worse than the old site of Twitter. Keyboard called enhancements are an insult to people with disabilities. Fortunately, there is a Web-based Twitter app that pays attention to everyone (and web standards, too).

About the Conference 2010 accessing Higher Ground

2010So Thursday, September 16, I'm starting to regret not participate AHG Conference this year (accessing Higher Ground: Accessible Media, Web and Technology Conference). I attended (and provided) in the two previous events. This year looks just as good, if not better.

AHG 2010 will be from 15 to 19 November at the Westin hotel in Westminster, Colorado, located about 13 kilometres from downtown Denver. Is a very beautiful with nice restaurants nearby.

More than 60 presentations and hands-on sessions and 35 hours of hands-on workshops are scheduled. You can read the session descriptions here. Maybe you'll see me in the list next year!

Below are suggestions to improve accessibility Web new Web site for section 508 of the Government of the United States. Well, in the analysis, at least, the home page. This is basic thing and I'm very disappointed that the site leaves much to be desired. The site, which is the law of the u.s. Government with Web accessibility rules, should be an example of a Web site accessible. And with the recent anniversary of THE ADA, this was a great opportunity to advance in the field of Web accessibility. But instead, unfortunately, this was a failed attempt. The u.s. Government has much work to do.

No positions! Not one. Need titles in markup, period. There are many titles indicated visually, but improperly encoded using strong or div tags. Labels for text entries are incorrect. There is a label tag, but no text label! See the search text and email to signup text. Alternative news to many images need improvement, how to remove "chart for". Better yet, do not use a graphic when not needed. the text is very well in the following two cases. (Lose the inline style would also be good). Example 1:

No keyboard focus to match the mouse hover effect. In addition, a focus & focus can be added in several places to make it more usable, such as the top-level items in resource navigation left/main menu "AddThis" media requires JavaScript and in both cases is not keyboard accessible. ARIA implemented, even Marco functions to help with navigation links like "read more > >" have no context; is not unique. We also recommend that you remove the ">" character (better use CSS for these types of markers/symbols). text links are unclear. The example is not a valid email address (top level domain is missing). The resource can be done with unobtrusive JavaScript and even use the label text, if it existed. Horizontal scroll bars on resolution 1024. Need better resizing/design width. Lots of CSS in the header (and inline). much better to use external file attribute language = "JavaScript" not necessary in XHTML. Why display the date? Only adds Print screen button. not necessary cluttered. Only adds the screen disordered. Requires JavaScript. Conditional comment for IE6 CSS should be in the head, body not .text resizing tool is not required. Let the browser do that! And disorders screen. Some navigation items use lists while others do not ButtonType.image need better optimization/compression. Alone in a feature image slider is more than 150 k and can easily be compressed to 35 k. 67 XHTML validation errors. Labels: analysis, gov, law

Accessibility Toolkit in OneForty

A "toolkit" is a collection of applications with a common theme. There are only four applications listed in my toolkit so far, so I certainly would like to receive suggestions.
